What they're saying: audience/performer comments about the series
Thank you for the lovely tribute to my dear friend Ross [Beitzel]. We were friends for 50 years and it was a very rewarding time. When he first attended a concert at Bunker Hill he was enthralled, as I knew he would be; I am very grateful he became involved, which was how he operated--always getting involved with things he loved. He will be sorely missed by many, many admirers. Elaine Goodman 1/24/24
What a wonderful concert yesterday! [11/12/23 A Concert for Peace] Absolutely fantastic! Many thanks to you and Bill in planning these concerts with those top-notch musicians with exceptional talent. Frank Herron, Cinnaminson 11/13/23
Thank you for having us and making us feel so welcome, Martha! It was a great pleasure being part of your beautiful concert series. Best wishes, Mark [Peskanov, violinist] NYC 11/12/23
Thank you very much for having this wonderful concert with Majel Connery and the Brothers Balliett. My husband and I enjoyed hearing this beautiful music on Sunday, April 23rd. I was honored to be a part of the seven Artists chosen to tie in with the song titles. My display was the Alaska Mountains. Carol Black, Sewell 4/23/23
Thank you for including me in such a wonderful event. I really enjoyed the concert immensely. Thank you for sharing the photos. I hope that we can collaborate again. Donna Miller, Woodbury 10/19/22
Thank you for a great event. I would love to have you back soon. Principal Jonathan Taylor, Woodbury Junior-Senior High School 10/19/22
Thank YOU so much again for coming [to Woodbury HS]. It was wonderful to meet you and to see Dr. Plant again. The students really loved it. I had some students asking if we could do it again! I also had a new choir student say, "It was different [than anything I have seen or heard before]. I didn't think I would like it, but I really did!" Sarah Johnston, Director of Choirs, Woodbury Junior-Senior High School 10/19/22
Thank you so much Martha for inviting our quartet to perform as part of the Music at Bunker Hill series, for organizing the educational outreach programs, and for the beautiful photos and video. Liz Player, Executive and Artistic Director, The Harlem Chamber Players 10/19/22
I just have to say: yesterday's concert was over the top. It was great and we are all very thankful that we have Music and Bunker Hill to soothe our souls on a Sunday afternoon. Thank you so much. EG Wenonah 9/11/22

What a great concert from beginning to end! Thanks for getting these really great players! -CH Philadelphia 11/28/21
I'm so happy I went to the concert Sunday. I was so impressed! Mimi blew me away. I have been reading about her and listening to other Dolce Suono performances. She is incredibly talented on so many levels. Thank you for introducing us! SD Mickleton 11/7/21
Another wonderful afternoon of music! Mimi Stillman’s teacher, Julius Baker, was a colleague of my dad’s in the New York Philharmonic; I spoke with her after the concert and she remembers meeting my dad with Julie many years ago…
Thank you for this treat. Gerry DiPersia, Sewell 11/7/21
We are incredibly fortunate to have world class musicians come to perform right here in south Jersey, and in such a wonderful intimate setting. JW Cherry Hill 10/3/21
The concert was phenomenal! The music was beautiful and the musicians so talented and playing as if they have performed a lot together. Carmit Zori was amazing as first violin in the Tchaikovsky. Playing second, she was very subdued but she became so animated in Souvenir de Florence. It was clear that she was emotionally involved in the music. Valtchek was excellent as well. MaBH is able to engage such talented musicians and we are very appreciative. LB, Haddonfield 10/3/21
What a powerful performance!! A terrific start to the season!! JE, Cherry Hill, 10/3/21
Just got home and opened a true treasure. I LOVE the butterfly notecards and can’t wait to listen to the CDs. So generous and thoughtful, not to mention a ticket for a concert. Thank you thank you! Ann Weigand, C-note winner, Greenwich, 10/3/21
Probably one of or the best concerts we have been to at BH. FR, Southampton, NJ, 10/3/21
The concert was wonderful - I am so glad I attended in person! GD, Sewell, 10/3/21
We just wanted to let you know how enjoyable the concert was yesterday. The musicians were superb and the safety precautions handled so efficiently. We were quite comfortable in that environment and for maintaining it the rest of the 2021/2022 Season, if necessary.
We were quite pleased to see in the program and hear from your comments about the large number of contributors that supported M&BH. It is a clear indication that people in our area are hungry to hear musicians of that quality perform, so close to home.
Many thanks to the leadership of M@BH for keeping this concert series alive during the challenges of the pandemic. BF, Wenonah, 10/3/21
I really enjoyed Catalyst! I very much appreciate musicians who speak engagingly and contextualize what they are playing between songs. A.G., Philadelphia, PA 4/24/2021
This was wonderful! Kudos to the Catalyst String Quartet for their artistry and enthusiasm in presenting works of Florence Price and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. A beautiful musical afternoon of music by black composers - thank you. GD, Sewell, 4/25/21
I received your lovely package in this afternoon’s mail - thank you! The three musical CDs and Wild Things note cards are very much appreciated and I want to express my thanks to you and the board for all you do. Looking forward to a new musical season at Bunker Hill...Gerry DiPersia [C-Note winner 4/2020]
Martha, thank you for sharing this, and the other photos you sent out to the MaBH community. I’m glad everyone had a great time listening to Elizabeth play and share her love of the harp and harp music. KH, Philadelphia 9/29/19
Anthony McGill was the first artist that we came to see at Music at Bunker Hill. He is absolutely fabulous! We've been regulars at your wonderful concerts ever since! Each one is different and always a pleasure. We also enjoy the nice complimentary reception after with all of the delicious food and opportunity to chat with the artists. DM, Woodbury, 10/2/19
Thank you for the information about the workings of the harp - I didn't know how complicated the mechanism is. Miss Hainen was ethereal! GD, Sewell, 9/29/19
[It was] Truly a fond memory of a wonderful day. Your patrons are warm and embracing and the church is lovely. Best of luck for the rest of your season! E Hainen 9/29/19
I just had to say: all of Bunker Hill's concerts are great, but yesterday's was particularly wonderful. Elizabeth Hainen's commentary was very enlightening and her harp transported the rest of the audience, I am sure, as it did me. The last piece with Will was just beyond description. Thank you so much for continuing Music at Bunker Hill, a true treasure. EG Wenonah, 9/29/19
I LOVE what you do - bringing world class music to a beautiful setting. Nothing makes my heart sing like classical music and Music at Bunker Hill has curated a great season - it's my treat to myself and part of my self-care plan. I couldn't resist. KP, Collingswood, NJ 8/29/19
Debra Lew Harder's concert was beautiful. I had seen Debra play with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra; so, I knew I wanted to see her play again. I listen to Debra all the time on WRTI as she is one of my favorite classical music radio hosts. PM, Exton, PA 4/14/19
Her performance and introduction of the music was outstanding. She immediately connected with the audience. The selection of music she presented was excellent. Probably the most enjoyable concert we've attended at MaBH. RJF and EGF, Wenonah 4/14/19
Debra was amazing! I enjoyed every minute. She’s a wizard. And so informative, delightful, consummate entertainer. LP, West Deptford 4/14/19
Great concert, excellent pianist, wonderful musical selections. LL Sewell 4/14/19
Debra was fantastic! I loved her performance and her commentary. I learned a lot and enjoyed her music. BP Phila/PA
We had been looking forward to Debra's concert for some time, having purchased two tickets early on, then one more when Mike's Aunt Neala came for a visit from St. Francis, Kansas. We so enjoy Debra's fine hosting on WRTI and have been members ever since moving to PA in 2014. The concert surpassed our expectations, as she is one of the finest pianists we have ever heard. Moreover, Aunt Neala, a fine musician in her own right, was over-the-moon with the music and Debra's charm and loved her willingness to sign her CDs and pose with her for a photo. Thank you for a wonderful Sunday!!! MK, Malvern, PA 4/14/19
Fabulous concert - loved her playing and her introductions to each piece. JP Media, PA
Stupendous! This was our second Debra concert. A wonderful side bonus was getting to see PFT, who gave us our programs! BZ Absecon, NJ 4/14/19
Debra's concert was so very inspiring; bridging music with examples of how melody is so intrinsic in our existence, across many cultures. I'm so glad it was well received. KH Phila/PA 4/14/19
The concert was over the top wonderful. Learning and Discovery at its best. Please have her again...SOON. RB Deptford 4/14/19
I enjoyed the concert as well as Harder's commentary. Everyone was nice. NB Somers Point NJ
I have grown accustomed to hearing some “Wow!” performances presented by Music at Bunker Hill,
but Debra Lew Harder’s concert was a “Double Wow!” Her sensitivity and love of the music was ever present
in her dazzling virtuosity. I also enjoyed her discussions about the human need for melody.
My need was certainly satisfied on that lovely afternoon. GP Glassboro 4/14/19
I thoroughly enjoyed Debra Lew Harder's program yesterday. She is a delightful and multi-talented person. I enjoyed her beautiful music and her interesting and stimulating commentary. I hadn't thought about music in this way before. I also appreciated the opportunity to meet you and learn about your program. Coming from Ardmore, PA, I had not heard about your group. I love music, in all forms, and will keep an eye on your programming for a possible future visit. BP Ardmore, PA 4/14/19
We have been season ticket holders almost from the inception of MaBH. We want to express our delight with Ms. Harder’s Concert yesterday. She is an extraordinary pianist, who immediately bonded with the audience. She is a charming outgoing artist, who gave an impeccable performance. We have enjoyed many wonderful Sunday afternoons at MaBH, but yesterday was at the top of the list. We would love to see her return to Bunker Hill, even if it required an increase in ticket prices.
Many thanks to you and all those who work to make these concerts available throughout the year and the individual who generously sponsored her appearance. B/BF Sewell 4/14/19
The playing was flawless. MY Sewell 11/25/18
"...sat next to a guy who learned about it on WRTI. This was his second time coming and he plans to return as often as he can. He said what I have been saying: 'It seems impossible that we have such a wonderful program down here in Gloucester County.'" EG Wenonah 11/25/18
Another wonderful concert this afternoon. The drive from Ocean City to Sewell doesn't seem so long when the reward is so rich. We attend as often as we can (which is generally two or more times per season. Family first for us so we are often out of town on performance day).
Simple question: are contributions tax deductible? (No matter to us but it is nice to know come tax time.) [Editor says YES]
We brought our sister in law today and she was most impressed. Thanks for putting together such rewarding programs. SW Ocean City 10/21/18
Aside from bringing world class musicians to our little piece of the world, Music @ Bunker Hill is always full of surprises, large and small. The Sunday, October 21 Trios performance was unique on several levels. When Will Frampton told us he would perform a piece by 90-year-old composer Thea Musgrave on her husband’s viola, accompanied by a recorded tape, we did not know what to expect. The contrast between the taped sounds with the clear, glowing tones of the live viola was wonderful. When Bridget Kibbey announced she would play Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor on the harp, I’m certain there were many in the audience who shared my skepticism. But that, too, was extraordinary. Lance Suzuki’s explanation of how modern composer Toru Takemitsu was influenced by Debussy made both the Takemitsu and Debussy pieces especially meaningful. His mastery of the various flutes made the Trios experience very special. EG Wenonah 10/21/18
The date of Musgrave's composition ... is significant to me. I was an engineer/board operator/classical host at our college's old AM / new FM station (Sundays at 6 PM) from my sophomore through senior years (read: fall 1967 to spring 1970), and introduced Grove City College and environs to the likes of Steve Reich and Terry Riley. Reich pioneered the use of phase engineering through audio tape looping (most notably in "Come Out"). Yes, your Bach/Beethoven/Brahms-loving pastor used to play Steve Reich on the airwaves, along with Bartok/Barber/Bernstein. DJW, Sewell 10/21/18
We had the BEST time!!!!! 🤗💝🎻 Dorothy Lawson (ETHEL) NYC 9/16/18

Music at Bunker Hill is such a find - phenomenal artists performing on a Sunday afternoon in New Jersey. MT Millville, NJ 8/1/18
Today's concert featuring the Imani Winds was fabulous. At first, I was not very enthused about attending because of the program. However, my sister talked me into going. Now, I am writing you to let you know how happy I am I gave myself the opportunity to experience their "Tradition and Experimental" program. MS, Miami, FL and Deptford, NJ 5/20/18
We had a wonderful time with your great audience members! Monica Ellis, Imani Winds 5/20/18
Something inexplicable happens when you immerse yourself in the perfect harmonies of classical music, performed with excellence by expert musicians. What an enriching experience! KM Southampton, NJ 4/8/18
Some of the greatest musicians in the world [David Kim and Friends] are here at Bunker Hill. Phenomenal performance in an intimate setting. Best cultural experience in South Jersey. Come join the fun! TM Southampton, NJ 4/8/18
It was a blast! We had a great time and the audience was super attentive. Thanks for having us! Ben Russel, Founders 12/3/17
Last Sunday's performance by Orion Weiss was spectacular. Thank you. EG Wenonah 10/5/17
Where do I begin? I'm never disappointed when I attend a concert here @ Bunker Hill. Variety, incredible talent, music passion and years of dedication I hear... There's no better deal in town, with beautiful music at such a reasonable price! JK Washington Twp 5/7/17
In a beautiful, intimate space, in the middle of nowhere, I was so delighted by the talents that I heard! Music at Bunker Hill makes great music accessible! KP 4/9/17
Today's Golden Age of Jazz and Mozart Clarinet Quintet performance was full of surprises. In my mind I could hear Bessie Smith singing along with the St. Louis Blues. Adding Mozart to the jazz/blues mix was inspired. Who but your great musicians would have thought of it? Thank you. Thank you. EG Wenonah 9/25/16
Just had the pleasure of seeing violinist David Kim, accompanied by pianist Jeffrey Devault, in concert...True masters of their art. Everyone should get to experience their wonderful skills. EC Wenonah 3/15/15
...a perfect concert performed in a lovely setting followed by a delicious buffet! MC Wenonah 3/15/15
David Kim was a hoot. His exceptional playing and fun personality I have come to know and love. But the stories about his musical upbringing and determined parents had the audience eating out of his hand. What a winning combination Kim and pianist Jeff Devault brought to the stage today. MF Washington Twp. 3/15/15
I was fortunate enough to have been present for the performance by Soyeon Kate Lee at the Bunker Hill concert series. Her performance was powerful and stunning. She translates the music into an emotional experience and at the end leaves the audience breathless and wanting more. MO Mantua 10/2/14
As a lifelong classical music devotee, raised by parents who themselves were lifelong Met opera
devotees, I can hardly wait for September to roll around each year; it signals the beginning of what I know will be an outstanding season of classical music at Bunker Hill Church.Thank you for offering Sunday’s superb concert [Soyeon Kate Lee]. DW Washington Twp. 10/18/14
Soyeon Kate Lee’s piano pieces were varied, imaginative and transporting. The programming at Bunker Hill has been wonderful, often of higher quality than one would expect in New York City, Philadelphia or Washington, DC. Perhaps it’s the intimate venue that allows musicians to relax and do their best work. Whatever it is, keep on doing what you are doing. Music at Bunker Hill is a treasure and I thank you for yet another dazzling performance. EG Wenonah 9/21/14
Soyeon Kate Lee presented a diverse concert on Sunday...She chose selections from Mozart, Janacek, Scriabin, Albeniz, and Ravel. Ms. Lee played with exquisite and varied tone and texture. From the climactic chords in La valse to the delicate evoking of bells in Iberia, Ms. Lee showed off all the possibilities of her instrument. She introduced several of the pieces, giving her audience a structure for listening. Ms. Lee is yet another young talent showcased in this wonderful concert series. CW Woodbury 9/21/14
I was in absolute awe of Soyeon Kate Lee's piano touch and musicality. Thanks to her playing, I found myself thoroughly enjoying music by composers I had not expected to like and wishing for more. RS Philadelphia 9/21/14

The music today was wonderful. As usual. All three musicians were nothing short of amazing. Phoenix Symphony Hall has 2,312 seats with prices ranging from $55 to $372. When Marcy performed there the house was packed. I wonder how many people have a clue what you are doing for this county...
Just one more astounded comment from an appreciative audience member: Last year when my friend and I attended a concert at the Phoenix Symphony featuring Marcy Rosen on cello, we both agreed she was wonderful and we would try to see her perform again. When I saw her name on your February 24 program, I was stunned. Of course I was away in Phoenix when she was right here at Bunker Hill. Small world. Thank you a thousand times for providing the best cultural experience this county has to offer. ESG Wenonah 4/7/13

Norma Weintraub Meyer facebook post> For those who missed last night's concert at "Music at Bunker Hill" , don't miss any others! "C.J. Chang and Friends" was music of the highest order. These luminary performers, headed by Mr. Chang: Amy Yang, Josef Spacek, Efe Batacigil, Jason Vieaux, John Koen, Natalie Helm, Joseph Conyers, and William Frampton performed a stellar program of Glazunov, Rebecca Clarke, Paganini and Bach. Right here in Washington Township. Bravo, bravo - we all left much inspired.

It was so nice to see newcomers in the audience and to see Music at Bunker Hill starting to branch out. Whenever I play there, I'm always happily surprised by the focus and attentiveness of the audience. The great acoustics combined with the intimacy of the hall and warm attentive audience creates an atmosphere that makes it so easy and enjoyable to perform! Angelia Cho, violinist, Ansonia Trio 12/4/09
Regarding the Yamaha piano; I personally enjoyed playing/rehearsing on it very much, as the piano was very welcoming and friendly in giving me the opportunity to be my 'voice' at ease. I was able to articulate clearly with my fingers (this, through fast and responsive action on the keyboard, light touch, but firm enough to feel the big warm sounds when needed), and since it had healthy soprano, bass, and warm middle register, it helped me greatly when I wanted to give and receive whenever needed in chamber music performances. I was able to produce 'colors' that I heard in my mind, being able to execute it through this piano -- which is probably the most important thing.
We as a trio agreed that the hall was probably one of the best to play in. It is rare to be in a venue where we can hear one another as chamber musicians at such ease. The combination, both the piano and hall, made our music making a most exuberant and satisfying one -- we were able to give, (re-)create whatever we wished to do, and dared to go beyond.....with success! Akiko Chiba, pianist, Ansonia Trio 12/4/09
On December 4, I attended my second concert of the series and I was "blown away" by the performance of the Ansonia Trio. I am so grateful to be able to experience the work of amazingly talented musicians just 10 minutes from my house. Thank you. R.A.M. - Wenonah 12/11/09
Superb music performance right here in Gloucester County. Music at Bunker Hill is a real treasure. You have to hear it to believe it. E. G., Wenonah 12/9/09
...We all thought it was absolutely wonderful. In fact, I took a flyer and hung it on the bulletin board in our clubhouse to let people know of the next concert. I told them to call me for directions and noted that it is top notch entertainment, close to home and very reasonable. I live in Lakebridge, an over 55 community with a very active club house in Deptford. I'm sure many people here would enjoy going to your presentations.

"Such a lovely concert. I hope you recorded it. They all will have great futures (and I can say I know them)." L. S. Marlboro 10/23/09
'Oh, by the way...one of the nicest compliments I heard regarding your son last night believe it or not had nothing to do with his musical ability. I overheard someone say "William has a good heart". I told him that you and your husband did a wonderful job with him.' -K. P. Marlton 4/20/09
The Midiri Brothers were right! (The ensemble had performed at Bunker Hill Church prior to the launch of the Music at Bunker Hill series.) While performing a sound check hours before the concert, the duo remarked that the sanctuary benefited from having been built in the 1980s, before the era when churches were engineered for high-tech, high-power praise worship (read: a lot of sound-deadening material). As a result, not one nuance of Ms. Cho's or Mr. Meyer's artistry was lost to an overly sound-dampened space. I trust that, as word of the thrilling performances reaches into the South Jersey region, more and more classical music aficionados such as myself will flock to Bunker Hill. -D.J.W Turnersville 11/24/08

Thank you so much for the lovely, beautiful music at Bunker Hill this afternoon. My daughter Kristin and I really enjoyed it. There are some wonderful things in the Heartland. NM Bridgeton 11/28/21
